Ever just reached that point where you didn't feel like going on? Maybe it is physical exhaustion or the weight of life's hardships and trials. Maybe it is disappointment with how your life is going - you feel like a failure. Maybe you feel abandoned by friends, unloved. Maybe it is your own failure, or your own feelings. But sometimes life is dreary and sadness abounds.

We all feel that way at times, some more than others perhaps. But feelings of discouragement, failure, disappointment and exhaustion are common among us, even those who know Jesus Christ and walk with him. Would that the redeemed were immune from those feelings, but we are not.

But I saw a verse nestled in Psalm 40 that lifted my spirits a little tonight. This psalm is another of David's laments; his attempts to process his pain and suffering in the light of God's goodness. He realizes his own sinfulness, turns to God when life gets hard and trusts in God's power and deliverance.

But look at the gem in verse 17.
I am afflicted and needy;
the Lord thinks of me.
You are my helper and my deliverer;
my God, do not delay.
He admits that his is needy, that he can't handle life on his own. He testifies that he is relying on God as his helper and deliverer, and calls out to God not to delay. But look at that second line.

"The Lord thinks of me."

What an amazing thought. The God of Heaven, the Creator and Sustainer, the Lord of Hosts, God Most High, Yahweh who exists in and of himself, the Great God, the Mighty God - he thinks of us! He knows the number of hairs on our heads and cares about every little thing that happens in our lives.

When our feelings tell us that no one cares, we must remind ourselves that God thinks of us. When it feels as if life isn't worth it, when we are tempted to despair and lose hope, we must remember this truth - God thinks of us. He cares. He never turns his back, is never unconcerned or too busy to notice us. He thinks of us.

Whatever is going on in your life, know that God knows and he cares. Regardless of the challenges, hardships and struggles you face, remember that God knows. He thinks of you.

Father, thank you for thinking about me, for caring for me. That makes all the difference.
